Nurse Residency Program

A nurse in the PeaceHealth residency program speaks with a nurse leader

Are you a newly graduated nurse looking for a great way to start your nursing career? Come join our team!

PeaceHealth is dedicated to supporting new nurses. Our Nurse Residency Program, offered in Bellingham, Vancouver, Longview, and Eugene/Springfield, includes monthly seminars focused on enhancing transition to professional practice and support building relationships with preceptors, mentors, and leaders throughout the first year of practice. In conjunction with Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program, we partner with clinical education to support orientation and unit-based competency development, providing structure as you advance from beginner to competent nurse.

Seminar curriculum focus:

  1. Quality outcomes: Understand safety and quality initiatives to improve patient experience and positively impact nurse-sensitive indicators.
  2. Leadership: Learn and practice strategies to communicate and work within an inter-professional team.
  3. Professional Role: Develop an evidence-based practice project, explore ethical decision making and create a professional development plan.

Residents in the program have electronic access to connect with other newly graduated nurses participating in similar residency programs across the country.

Program Goals:

  • Transition from an entry level advanced beginner nurse to competent professional, providing safe and quality care to our patients.
  • Develop clinical leadership at the point of patient care, through advocacy and reflective practice.
  • Develop effective decision-making skills related to clinical judgment and performance.
  • Formulate a nursing professional development plan to support lifelong learning.

All newly graduated nurses in all clinical areas are eligible to participate in the Nurse Residency Program. New graduate is defined as less than 12 months since nursing school graduation (at time of application) and less than 6 months of acute care experience as an RN.
