Advanced Incision-free Brain Surgery

Treating brain cancer or other neurological disorders doesn’t have to mean traditional surgery.

PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Gamma Knife Center offers incision-free brain surgery.

About Gamma Knife

Gamma Knife radiosurgery is an alternative to open surgery and conventional radiotherapy. It may be available for some patients based on specific diagnoses and disease pathology.

It is a painless outpatient treatment that doesn’t involve any knives or surgery at all. It´s extremely accurate, using many small, focused radiation beams.

This treatment is used for a range of conditions in the brain, including:

  • benign and malignant tumors.
  • arteriovenous malformations.
  • functional disorders such as essential tremor and trigeminal neuralgia.

Gamma Knife Esprit

The newest tool, Gamma Knife Esprit, combines precision and performance for a best-in-class treatment.

Our providers use this technology and their expertise to help patients achieve better outcomes and a more positive experience overall.

Esprit difference

  • Exceptional precision spares healthy tissue, which helps protect your mind and quality of life.
  • The unit’s open design means the care team can see and communicate with you during treatment.
  • There’s little if any noise so the atmosphere during treatment is quiet, calm and comforting.
  • During treatment, you can listen to music or other audio recording of your choice.
  • This treatment can take care of more than one tumor during a single session.
  • It can take half as much time as treatment using older Gamma Knife equipment.
  • Typically, recovery time is faster from Gamma Knife vs. invasive treatment alternatives. Often patients go home the same day as the procedure and return to normal activities soon after.
