Emergency Care Reimagined with the PeaceHealth Dove
Peacehealth Southwest's new emergency department

Emergency Care

  • Expanding to meet the needs of our community. From 2010 to 2020, Clark County’s population grew by 18%.
  • The emergency department sees over 76,000 patient visits per year, making it one of the busiest on the West Coast.
  • More than doubling the size of our emergency department's square footage.
  • Increasing the number of exam rooms from 57 to 72.
  • Adding 25 observation rooms.
  • Creating 8 pocket gardens, walking paths, and an outdoor courtyard
  • Building 72 new parking spaces to better accommodate the flow of traffic.

Caregiver Excellence

  • Collaborating with caregivers on the design of the new emergency department.
  • Installing skylights above the nurses' stations to invite natural daylight into working spaces.
  • Establishing a quiet, outdoor space just for caregivers so they can eat, read, and decompress.
  • Creating a clinical education room for teams to gather and share information.
  • Acquiring state-of-the-art equipment that empowers caregivers to deliver the highest standard of care.
  • Committing to continuous elevation of skills and expertise for caregivers.
  • Focusing on education opportunities for all hospital caregivers regardless of level.

Community Health

  • Pioneering a new model of whole-person care in partnership with community nonprofits to serve patients with non-medical needs all in one location.
  • Roughly 40% of visits to the emergency department are made by people seeking non-medical needs in addition to their medical needs.
  • Providing physical space for our community partners to serve patients with housing, addiction, food insecurity and behavioral health needs.
  • Addressing patients' medical and non-medical needs in real time.
  • Delivering the right care at the right time in the right place.
  • Fulfilling our purpose of providing safe and compassionate care for every person, every time.

An innovative approach to whole-person care

Social Service Integration Partners through Healthcare Reimagined

As we set out to reimagine healthcare, we are integrating social services into the emergency department through our Community Health Hub.

In partnership with local agencies, we are breaking new ground in delivering an innovative model of whole-person care by providing patients immediate onsite access for community partners to address the growing need for services in our community.

The Community Health Hub provides a collaborative physical space in our Emergency Department for community partners and direct access to services for our patients.

Now, when patients turn to us for emergency care and are identified as homeless, they have immediate access to community partners like Council for the Homeless and Open House Ministries for compassionate assistance with housing services. At the same time, other community partnerships with organizations such as Meals on Wheels and Clark County Food Bank allow us to ensure patients have access to healthy food boxes and meals not just upon leaving the hospital and, beyond.

We understand that these root causes of poor health must be addressed if we are to build a healthier community for all — and we must do this together.
