Biography

Dr. Tom Rand has an extensive background in both the science and practice of pediatric medicine, especially related to infections and immunologic problems. He eagerly takes on patients with chronic or complex medical problems. He practices pediatric primary care full time now, but he is also board-certified in pediatric infectious diseases as he practiced a subspecialty at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital in Boise Idaho for 24 years until he joined PeaceHealth Pediatrics team in 2016. He was selected as 2016 Pediatrician of the Year by the Idaho Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. You may be surprised that Dr. Rand takes on management of issues that another pediatrician might shy away from. He has supported transgender care for adolescents here in our clinic, for example. He calmly tackles mental health needs that many of our pediatric patients go through. In their free time, Dr. Rand and his wife are passionate about mountain activities such as hiking and snowshoeing, so long as their German shepherd dog Uki can go along.

Patient comments for Thomas H. Rand MD

Dr Rand is an excellent pediatrician . He listens and addresses any concerns in a professional manner

Dr. Rand is thoughtful, easy to talk to, asks relevant questions, cares for our family's wellbeing, and is incredibly brilliant.

Doesn't have good bedside manner.

We came in for a cough going on for 3 months and the provider did not listen to my son's heart or lungs. Did not have a stethoscope st all. And then documented in the chart note that he auscultated my son's heart and lungs. And documented he felt his abdomen which he did not. Multiple body systems were documented as looked and but he did not examine these. He did not examine the chief complaint my son was there for. He looked in his ears and mouth that is it.
