Biography
Dennis Hopkinson, MD, is a specialist in pulmonary and critical care.
He earned his doctor of medicine from University College Cork in Cork, Ireland. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University and a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at Duke University. He specializes in pulmonary care, which he describes as “solving a puzzle in critical thinking.”
He focuses on how to best help meet his patients’ needs. That includes tailoring and prescribing treatments that meet their goals. “I can do all these therapies, but how can I help patients and their families, even if it’s focused on managing their symptoms,” he said.
He is married with a young son and a fluffy Bernese mountain dog. The family camped their way across the country when they moved to Oregon from North Carolina. When he’s not at work, he enjoys hiking and camping and checking out Oregon’s wineries and breweries.
He grew up in a small, rural town in Virginia, and later earned a bachelor of arts in music from Indiana University, teaching piano and trombone for several years after graduation.
