PeaceHealth brings skilled providers of diverse backgrounds to Whatcom County

BELLINGHAM, Wash. —PeaceHealth has welcomed twelve new providers to both hospital-based and PeaceHealth Medical Group (PHMG) clinic-based practices in Whatcom County.

Brittany LeGarde, CPNP-PC, joined PHMG’s Pediatrics team of providers. Brittany earned a Master of Science in Nursing in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner- Primary Care Program at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina with a specialty in pediatric mental health. She is board-certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. She supports pediatric mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and is especially passionate about the coordination of care for children.

Timothy Armstrong, MD, joined PHMG’s Neurology team of providers. Dr. Armstrong earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, and completed his residency in Neurosciences at the University of California at San Diego Medical Center in La Jolla, California. Dr. Armstrong was recognized as one of San Diego Magazine’s Top Doctors from 2009 through 2015. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology. He has special interests in neuromuscular disorders and electrodiagnostic medicine, which includes electromyography and nerve conduction studies.

Jennifer Scanlon, ARNP, joined the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Childbirth Center team of providers. Dr. Scanlon earned her Doctor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She previously practiced at Swedish OB/GYN Specialists in Issaquah, Washington. She has a special interest in risk-based maternity care.

Beth Earthman, CPNP-PC, joined PHMG’s Pediatrics team of providers. Beth earned a Master of Science in Nursing in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. She is board-certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. Her most recent research has focused on pediatric obesity, mental health, developmental pediatrics and neonatal care. She provides care to pediatric patients in all stages of growth and development.

Chanudi Weerasinghe, MD, joined the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center team of providers. Dr. Weerasinghe earned her Doctor of Medicine at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and Hematology and Oncology fellowship at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, New York. She is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She has special interests in gastrointestinal, breast and gynecological cancers. Her research has focused on targeted therapy and treatment for early stage and metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, prognostic factors in colorectal cancer, and rare and uncommon adverse events due to immunotherapy.

Karman Tandon, MD, MPH, joined PHMG’s Cardiology team of providers. Dr. Tandon earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. He completed his Master of Public Health at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He then made his way back to the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington for his Cardiology fellowship. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has special interests in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, genetic and rare heart diseases, sports cardiology, complex valve disease and multimodality cardiac imaging.

Anthony Holmes, MD, joined PHMG’s Cardiology team of providers. Dr. Holmes earned his Doctor of Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, New York, followed by his Cardiovascular Disease fellowship at the New York University School of Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York, New York. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a registered physician in vascular interpretation. Dr. Holmes has special medical interests in advanced cardiac imaging, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, cardiac amyloidosis, valvular heart disease and arrhythmia.

Kevin Steel, MD, joined PHMG’s Cardiology team of providers. Dr. Steel earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is Harvard-trained in cardiac imaging and takes a special medical interest in noninvasive cardiac studies, included magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), nuclear cardiology and echocardiography. He is board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Nuclear Medicine, Echocardiography and Cardiac MRI. He is a retired Air Force colonel of the United States Air Force, Medical Corps. He has been deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq and Oman as a critical care physician and senior cardiology consultant.

Jimmy Yee, MD, joined PHMG’s Cardiology team of providers. Dr. Yee earned his Doctor of Medicine at St. George’s Medical School in Grenada, West Indies. He is board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, Echocardiography and Nuclear Medicine. He has medical interests in acute coronary syndrome, stable ischemic heart disease, complex high risk and indicated procedures (CHIP), chronic total occlusions (CTO), peripheral artery disease, carotid stenting, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, echocardiography and nuclear medicine. His research has focused largely on interventional cardiology and general cardiology. He takes pride in staying current with the continually evolving technology of those fields.

Angela Caffrey, MD, joined PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Palliative Care team of providers. Dr. Caffrey earned her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at the Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California. She went on to complete her Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. She is board-certified in Hospice & Palliative Medicine and Gynecologic Oncology. Prior to joining PeaceHealth, Dr. Caffrey worked with World Gospel Mission, serving intermittently in Kenya. She has special medical interests in improving access to and education around comprehensive, resource-appropriate end-of-life care for marginalized and underserved populations.

Carla Russo, MD, joined the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Childbirth Center team of providers. Dr. Russo earned her Doctor of Medicine and completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at The Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Prior to joining PeaceHealth, Dr. Russo worked at Bellingham Obstetrics and Gynecologists (BOGA) located just down the street from PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center. She has special medical interests in obesity in pregnancy and utilizing systems-based practice to reduce medical errors and injury.

Lindsay Nelson, ARNP, joined the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Palliative Care team of providers. Lindsay earned her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has an Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse certification. Prior to joining PeaceHealth, Lindsay practiced as a hospital-based palliative care nurse practitioner at Providence Alaska in Anchorage. She puts a special emphasis on fostering a patient-centered approach to medical care, supporting and mentoring non-specialist clinicians in developing a palliative approach to patient care and finding integrative approaches to relieve suffering.
