Care extends beyond emergency room
Team takes extra steps to help elderly patient
Caroline Rowell was on her way home from work at PeaceHealth when she saw a fellow nurse, Theresa Currey, helping an elderly lady cross the street.
She later learned the full story.
The woman had come into the emergency department at the PeaceHealth hospital in Eugene, Oregon where Theresa works.
During the patient’s emergency visit, Theresa and others in the department in the University District learned that their patient had recently become homeless.
Together the staff worked out a plan to help the patient get into emergency shelter in the local mission. Theresa made sure the patient was able to get to the bus stop across the street.
“Everyone worked to help ease this patient’s crisis,” Theresa said. “…even the city bus driver got off the bus to help the patient safely board.”
