Eugene family continues legacy of giving back in time and treasure

E.C. Papé began the family business in 1938. Now celebrating its 80th anniversary, it is still owned and run by a fourth generation. The business and the family grew along with a legacy of giving back.

The Papé Group’s philanthropic roots started when E.C.’s son, Dean, and his wife Shirley, founded the Sister Theodore Marie Society to support PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Oregon. Their son, Randy, continued this caring connection and played an instrumental role in the PeaceHealth Sacred Heart at RiverBend campaign. Randy’s wife, Susie, emeritus director of the PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Foundation, was one of the first women to serve on the Foundation board, which she did from 1989-1998. She chaired a campaign for a surgical robot and served on many committees.

Randy and Susie’s son, Ryan, became the third generation of Papés involved with the Foundation serving from 2006-2015, when he was just 31. The youngest member on the board, Ryan became inspired to recruit younger board members to continue the legacy of those who had served before. His wife, Jennifer, currently serves on the Foundation board and shares, “At the foundation, our role is to support the Mission of PeaceHealth by leading in advocacy, fundraising and fiduciary oversight. I believe wholeheartedly in the Mission and want to contribute my time and support in it for our community.”

The Papé family is continuing their legacy of giving by supporting the Heartfelt House at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart at Riverbend, a place of respite and peace for out-of-town families of patients during what can be a stressful time. This gift is part of the Papé family’s ongoing legacy of giving back to their community and inspiring the next generation of philanthropists.
