Nurse asks “How can I help?”
Beth Best steps into difficulties with grace
Stepping into challenging situations is not unusual for Beth Best, RN, an emergency department nurse who has been with PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington for 15 years.
A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, after several leadership changes had occurred, Beth asked, “How can I help?”
She agreed to serve as the interim manager in the ED and recruited two other colleagues to step in to fill gaps.
One of the most remarkable accomplishments under Beth’s leadership were changes that made it possible for the ED team to see more patients more quickly.
Those around her consistently see her lead with grace.EDs can be filled with tension. Beth’s composure brings a sense of calm to patients, families and caregivers. She skillfully handles complex and stressful situations with a deep level of respect for everyone involved.
Beth asked the question. She ended up answering it with her own actions.
