Special deliveries make perfect stocking stuffers

Every time a child is born, it’s a magnificent and joyous occasion. But, thanks to the creativity of a dedicated caregiver, charming Christmas stockings make spirits extra bright around the holiday season at the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Childbirth Center in Bellingham, Washington.

Kari Eastman, RN, nurse team lead in the unit, works tirelessly to ensure that all babies born during the last two weeks of December receive a special handmade Christmas stocking.

She begins the process each July, searching for good deals on felt at local fabric stores. As December approaches, Eastman, her mother, her sister and any other “elves” she can recruit work together to make each stocking a unique work of art. The designs are fun, whimsical and cheery.

For Eastman, crafting the stockings is a labor of love built on a 45-year tradition at the hospital. Volunteers had previously made these festive keepsakes, but she took over the reins 10 years ago.

The cuteness is on overdrive as precious new babies are proudly displayed in festive keepsakes. Parents, family members and PeaceHealth caregivers agree: These are the best stocking stuffers ever.
