Give the gift of advance care planning
| Resources | Healthy You
Here are resources to help you create a plan.
You don't have to wait until National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) — April 16 — to make your wishes known.
Talking with others about advance care planning is an important part of being prepared any time.
"Thinking about our own death or losing our sense of control can be daunting," says Daleasha Hall, PeaceHealth's system director of palliative and hospice care.
Know your wishes
"But advance care planning is a great gift to those who matter most to you. It lets them know your wishes and your values. And it gives them a guide to follow when they need it most."
Do your family members know what you'd want, if you can't speak for yourself? Do you know what they'd want?
Knowing and understanding each other's values can bring comfort in times of stress.
"This topic is difficult. It takes courage to have these conversations, but they are so worthwhile," she says.
Write and share
So, have that conversation. Write down your ideas, wishes, concerns, hopes and values. Then share them.
