In its ongoing commitment to find ways to support community health, access to healthcare and other key social services, PeaceHealth is proud to announce that it will be the lead sponsor of a bike share network that will launch in Eugene and Springfield this spring. This endeavor is in collaboration with Social Bicycles by JUMP Bikes, the City of Eugene, University of Oregon and Lane Transit District.
Bike share is an innovative transportation solution that allows people to check out a bicycle for short urban trips that might otherwise be made by bus or car. This is one of the fastest growing modes of transportation, and is a healthy, environmentally friendly and congestion-reducing transportation alternative.
“Ultimately, we felt strongly about this engagement as we are offering an affordable mode of transportation that allows residents to better access healthcare and other services,” said PeaceHealth Oregon Chief Executive Rand O’Leary. “This partnership also supports healthy lifestyles within our community, while maintaining our strong environmental stewardship.”
This spring, a network of 300 bikes at 35 stations will be accessible to students, residents, commuters, visitors and tourists in the downtown core, on the University of Oregon campus (including Sacred Heart Medical Center and the University District), and in the Whiteaker neighborhood. A station also will be located on the campus of Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
“To ensure the program is accessible to as many residents as possible, we are building in several payment options including a low-income pass,” added O’Leary.
