Questions to ask your primary care provider

Asking questions is the best way to make sure you and your doctor are on the same page.
You might have noticed that doctors can ask a lot of questions. It's part of how they get the information they need to help patients solve or prevent health concerns.
When you've scheduled a visit--whether it's for your annual exam or a new health problem--you will want to be prepared to answer questions your provider might ask.
You might also plan on asking your doctor a few questions.
Your health is important and your visit with your provider is often a good opportunity to learn more about taking care of yourself.
Here are a few questions to consider asking at your next office visit:
- How are my vitals?
- What preventive care services or screenings are right for me at this point in time?
- Which internet resources should I use for medical info?
- How does my family history affect my risk for certain conditions?
- How could [insert diagnosis e.g., blood pressure, high cholesterol] impact my health down the road?
- How can I reduce my risk for heart disease?
- Is there anything you'd recommend for me to live a longer, healthier life?
- When should I come see you again? How often should I get a check up?
