EUGENE, Ore. – PeaceHealth Rides received a top award Tuesday evening from Better Eugene-Springfield Transportation (BEST), a nonprofit public transit advocacy group.
PeaceHealth Rides, Eugene’s bike share system, was honored with the 2019 BEST Award for Transportation Options and recognized for introducing a new and fun transportation option to our community.
“It’s such an honor to be acknowledged for our work and partnership in the community,” said Lindsey Hayward, general manager of PeaceHealth Rides. “We’re grateful to all our wonderful PeaceHealth Rides members and encourage everyone to ride with us—to give bike share a try. The true winners of bike share are the riders getting exercise as they travel, the community experiencing less traffic congestion and the environment having fewer carbon emissions.”
In just one year, PeaceHealth Rides has become an integral part of the city of Eugene’s transportation system and bike culture.
PeaceHealth Rides members have logged over 190,175 trips and 210,000 miles since the bike share program launched on April 19, 2018.
In the past year, over 13,000 people have become PeaceHealth Rides members, and they’ve burned more than 8.2 million calories.
By using green transportation, PeaceHealth Rides members prevented more than 181,177 pounds of carbon gases from entering the atmosphere, saving roughly 9,058 gallons of gas.
To celebrate the BEST award and national Bike Month, PeaceHealth Rides continues to offer free monthly memberships throughout the month of May as a thank you to the community for making bike share a huge success our first year. More details on how to redeem the free membership can be found at www.peacehealthrides.com.
PeaceHealth Rides is humbled to be chosen for this award from a field of outstanding finalists. The other finalists included Lane Transit District’s EmX West bus rapid transit segment; Free Bikes 4 Kidz Eugene-Springfield; the City of Springfield Oregon Government’s New Franklin Boulevard and the #YesRideChoice campaign to enable ride-hailing services such as Lyft and Uber to operate in our community.
PeaceHealth Rides launched with 300 bikes and 35 stations in Eugene and one station in Springfield at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. Responding to community demand, the bike share system recently added four stations in Eugene, including the popular destinations of Valley River Center, Amazon Park, Lane Events Center and 19th and Agate.
