SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash., - PeaceHealth United General North Puget Cancer Center (PHUG NPCC) will offer new support services to patients and their caregivers beginning in March 2018. The groups and classes are intended to address the emotional and physical stresses of cancer by providing mind-body support and a safe place to share feelings and challenges.
People with cancer, their caregivers and their friends/family members are invited to attend cancer support groups free of charge. These support groups are designed to help navigate through the journey of cancer from just receiving the news to long-term survivorship. The groups will provide emotional support and connection, as well as information and resources. No registration is required. The schedule layout is as follows:
- Women’s cancer support group
- The first Monday of each month from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
- Upcoming Dates: March 5, April 2
- Men’s cancer support group
- The second Friday of each month from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
- Upcoming Dates: March 16, April 13
- “Caring for Caregivers” support group
- The third Monday of each month from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
- Upcoming Dates: March 19, April 16
- Community education sessions: Deriving topics from the discussions and questions of the support groups, these informative talks will provide resources and tools for all in attendance. Speakers will be announced monthly.
- The fourth Wednesday of each month from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
- Upcoming Dates: March 28, April 25
In addition, a yoga class will be offered for PHUG NPCC patients. It will focus on meditation and light stretching, individualized to the ability of its participants. Taught by PeaceHealth United General employee Laurie Gonzalez, a certified yoga instructor who has primarily taught wounded veterans, the class will take place the last Tuesday of every month from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m., beginning Tuesday, Feb. 27.
All classes and groups will all be held at PeaceHealth United General Medical Center, 2000 Hospital Drive, Sedro-Woolley.
